Collecting compost

The compost system in place at Skinner City Farm (SCF) is extensive and very productive. It begins with food scraps, garden debris and organic matter all collected carefully to avoid inorganic waste such as plastic, chemicals, silverware, and rocks. Normally this waste goes to the dump, or in the future to waste collectors that take it out of town to process and sell back in Eugene. Our compost is generally organic and sourced from nearby restaurants. We collect using Human Powered cargo bikes from the Center for Appropriate Transport. The resulting compost and worm castings are used for bed prep and for growing starts.

Our current compost partners and business include:

Sweet Life Patisserie

Morning Glory Cafe

Hummingbird Wholesale

Not Your Mom’s Sandwich Shop

Mezza Luna Pizza

Red Agave
